What is “Chroma Key”?
Separating a subject from a chosen background colour, often green or blue, so another background can be placed behind it.

How do you use Chroma Key practically?
A small exercise
Photograph a subject away from an evenly lit coloured backdrop. Make a test key and inspect hair, edges and colour spill.
- Make a starting version and keep it so you can compare fairly.
- Try the change in the exercise. Keep unrelated choices steady where the exercise allows.
- Compare the result at the size your viewer will actually see. Write down what changed and whether it helped.
How does Chroma Key solve a problem?
It allows a replacement background when the shoot cannot take place in the final setting.
What can go wrong?
Clothes matching the key colour may disappear. Reflected background colour and uneven lighting make clean edges harder.
How do you turn the idea into a useful solution?
Start with the specific problem in your image or brief, try the exercise, and keep the version that meets that need. If the result is worse, return to the starting version and change one choice at a time.
