Backup explained simply
What is โBackupโ?
A separate recoverable copy of important files, made so one device failure or mistake does not destroy the only copy.
- 01Original
- 02Separate copy
- 03Restore test
How do you use Backup practically?
A small exercise
Copy a session to separate storage, verify it opens, and test restoring one file. Keep another appropriately protected copy away from the main device.
- Make a starting version and keep it so you can compare fairly.
- Try the change in the exercise. Keep unrelated choices steady where the exercise allows.
- Compare the result at the size your viewer will actually see. Write down what changed and whether it helped.
How does Backup solve a problem?
It protects the work if a drive fails or a file is accidentally overwritten.
What can go wrong?
Synchronising a deletion across devices is not always a recoverable backup. Test your recovery method.
How do you turn the idea into a useful solution?
Start with the specific problem in your image or brief, try the exercise, and keep the version that meets that need. If the result is worse, return to the starting version and change one choice at a time.
Quick check: can you explain the three ideas in the diagram?
Original โ Separate copy โ Restore test. Explain how each relates to the exercise. Then compare the starting version with your result and choose the one that meets your brief.
