FROM THE CINEVIEW ARCHIVE

Build the scene.
Then find the frame.

A short film can depend on a handful of carefully planned scenes. Start with the script breakdown: cast, props, set dimensions, camera movement and the coverage needed to tell the story.

This photograph from Cineview’s archive shows a camera operator working around a constructed set. Use the floor plan and a studio viewing to check how your own design, crew and equipment will fit.

Make room
for your story.

Explore different uses of the studio in our media archive. These are examples of previous setups; scenery, projection equipment and production kit must be discussed and agreed for your booking.

COVER THE SCENE

Give the edit
what it needs.

01. Rehearse the blocking.

Walk through actor positions and camera movement before the first take. Check entrances, sightlines and the widest part of the action within the final lighting setup.

02. Plan the coverage.

List masters, close-ups, reactions and inserts. Keep eyelines, screen direction and prop positions consistent as you move between angles.

03. Allow for pickups.

Leave time for alternate delivery, clean details, transition shots and missing moments. Record continuity references so the next setup matches the scene.

Recording dialogue? Explain your sound requirements and arrange a recce and sound test before booking. Do not assume acoustic isolation or that sound recording equipment is included.
PROTECT THE SHOOT DAY

Budget the time.
As well as the scene.

Share the breakdown.

Send preferred dates, cast and crew numbers, set requirements and your scene list. Mention unusual props, effects or rigging early so suitability can be discussed.

Include preparation.

Allow for loading, construction, dressing, pre-light, hair and make-up, rehearsals and tests. Ask about consecutive days if preparation and filming need separate bookings.

Agree the hire.

Bring your own crew and kit at no extra charge simply for using your equipment. Request separately agreed equipment or support if needed. Full payment secures the booking.
