Apple announces touchscreen MacBook Pro: UK price and release

Apple has announced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, bringing a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display to new 14-inch and 16-inch models. The 28 October announcement confirms M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations.

What changes for photographers and filmmakers?

Touch adds direct scrolling, zooming and drawing alongside the keyboard and trackpad. Apple says Final Cut Pro will gain touchscreen editing controls through Creator Studio updates in November; touch-focused third-party app updates, including Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve, are listed for later this year.

The new display covers P3 and Adobe RGB, with adaptive 10–120Hz refresh rates. Apple specifies up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, distinct from its 1,000-nit sustained full-screen figure. Connections include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI and SDXC. These are manufacturer specifications, not Cineview test results.

For crews planning a session at our London photography studio, the practical question is whether direct image review improves collaboration without interrupting familiar keyboard workflows. App compatibility and colour-management settings deserve checking before relying on a new machine for a paid shoot. Cineview has not tested or confirmed stocking this model.

UK price and release

Apple lists UK preorders from 28 October, with availability beginning 6 November 2026. M5 Pro versions start at £2,899 for 14-inch and £3,399 for 16-inch. Check configurations and delivery estimates through Apple UK. The separately announced M6 MacBook Pro uses a Liquid Retina XDR display; it is not this touchscreen model.
