Blackmagic UltraStudio Express HD: USB4 capture and playback for £445

Blackmagic UltraStudio Express HD capture and playback unit, front three-quarter view

Blackmagic Design has introduced UltraStudio Express HD, a compact capture and playback unit for Mac, Windows and Linux computers with USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 connections. Its official press-image catalogue dates the launch to 30 October 2026.

The unit handles broadcast-quality 10-bit video up to 1080p60. It combines 3G-SDI capture and playback with HDMI monitoring and analogue video and audio inputs. That makes it relevant to edit suites as well as teams transferring material from older broadcast decks.

Connections for editing and archive work

Dual SDI outputs support fill-and-key playback, while RS-422 deck control and a reference input serve traditional broadcast workflows. An optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel adds an LCD for video preview, audio meters and timecode; it is not an included accessory.

For crews planning a film studio shoot in London, the practical question is how the camera feed reaches the monitor or computer. Check the required signal format and software compatibility before choosing a capture device. Cineview has not tested this unit, and this report does not indicate studio inventory.

UK price and availability

Blackmagic’s UK product page lists £445 excluding VAT and local shipping. The manufacturer’s launch announcement says it is available now through resellers worldwide; individual UK stock and delivery dates still need checking.
